DON LAFONTAINE

There are very few chances that you heard that name.

However, there are a lot more

chances that you heard his voice.

You might've heard him here

Or here

Or here

That's right

It's all the same narrator,

DON LAFONTAINE

That's him right here

He was known under many names:

"The King", "Thunder Throat", "The Voice of God"

When he passed away in 2008, he had recorded over 5000 movie trailers, 350 000 TV and radio spots. He was recognized as probably the best narrator ever.

In the following video, Don LaFontaine talks about his life and career

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of information about him out there. His official website claims that he made over 5000 trailers, yet there is no proper archive that assembles his work.

This is why I made this website. This website acts as an archive of LaFontaine's work. However, this website hosts about 500 of his trailers, which is 10% of his life's work. Finding all 5000 of LaFontaine's trailers would be a task equal to finding the Holy Grail; some of the trailers have been lost to time, some of them don't exist on the internet yet, and some of them might only exist in private collections.

In any case, people have been quietly trying to assemble Don LaFontaine's work together in one package, just like the person managing this IMDb page (Trailers Narrated by Classic Trailer Narrator Don Lafontaine). This website is a contribution to that collective effort of bringing all of LaFontaine's trailers together.

Trailers have certainly evolved, but his influence could still be felt even in today's trailers, which goes to show how impactful his work was on Hollywood.

In the trailer, the narrator imitates LaFontaine's pitch and intonation.

This YouTube channel makes parody trailers using Don LaFontaine's mannerisms.
